Dr. Dawn Brown first started racing sled dogs as a junior in the Northeastern US in 1982. She first came to Alaska as a veterinary student in 1993, and later drove the Alcan Highway multiple times to work in Interior Alaska as a relief veterinarian and a sprint race competitor while practicing in upstate New York.
In love with Alaska, she finally made a permanent move to the Interior in 2012 and joined the team at North Pole Veterinary Hospital. She practices general medicine and surgery, with a special interest in working with canine athletes. While she has retired from competitive sprint mushing, she still keeps a kennel of her retired champions. She now competes in dog agility with her Australian Cattle Dog and Border Collie. She also enjoys target shooting and gardening.
